How a Control Valve Works
A control valve functions by modulating the flow of a process fluid. It receives a control signal from an automation system such as a PLC or DCS. This signal drives an actuator, which moves the valve’s internal element (plug, ball, disc, or diaphragm) to adjust the flow rate accurately.
The position of the valve changes dynamically to match real-time process requirements.
Main Components of a Control Valve
A typical control valve assembly includes:
Valve Body – directs and controls the flow of fluid
Trim (Plug, Seat, Cage) – regulates flow characteristics
Actuator – converts control signals into mechanical movement
Positioner – ensures precise valve positioning
Bonnet and Packing – provide sealing and protect internal components
Each component is selected based on process conditions such as pressure, temperature, and fluid type.

Globe Control Valves – ideal for precise flow regulation
