What is Butterfly Valves?
A butterfly valve is a type of flow control device used to start, stop, or regulate the movement of liquids and gases through a pipeline. It gets its name from the “butterfly-like” disc inside the valve, which rotates around a central shaft.
When the disc is turned parallel to the flow, fluid passes through easily. With a quick quarter-turn, the disc rotates to a closed position, blocking the passage. This makes butterfly valves highly efficient, lightweight, and easy to operate.
They are widely used in industries such as water treatment, oil & gas, power generation, chemical plants, HVAC systems, and food processing because they offer:
-
- Compact design that saves space
- Quick on/off operation
- Reliable sealing with low maintenance
- Cost-effectiveness, especially in larger pipe sizes
- In short, a butterfly valve is a simple, durable, and versatile valve solution for controlling flow in modern piping systems.
